Because of the generosity of our community, 738 children received toys for Christmas and 650 low income Delta families were able to celebrate the holidays with food on the table.

Upcoming Workshops & Clinics

Deltassist is hosting an upcoming workshop that is open to residents of Delta. "Budgeting Workshop" scheduled for Saturday February 20.

There will also be an "Access Justice" Pro Bono clinic (Family Law) hosted by Deltassist on March 3, 2010 from 10 am – 12 noon.

Free Income Tax Preparation For Low Income Delta Rresidnets

Income tax season is just around the corner and Deltassist volunteers are here to help. During March and April free tax clinics will be offered by appointment only in both Ladner and North Delta locations.

Your Help Is Urgently Needed

Linking Youth in the Community

Deltassist is pleased to provide a link for youth in our community.

The following link Mind Check is part of the The Fraser Health Early Intervention Project: Fraser Health Youth Health Literacy Public Awareness Campaign using a multi-media approach.

The Mind Check website is a part of a Fraser Health youth and young adult health literacy initiative that encourages early detection and intervention of mental health and addiction issues in young people age 13 – 25.

The youth friendly website is designed to increase health literacy in young people, encourage information and help-seeking.

The website features information on depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance misuse and offers self screening tools, education material, self help resources and links to local services and other quality resources.

2010 Legacies Now

Celebrating community development, engaging volunteers and supporting local events are some of the ways we are helping get involved in the excitement and opportunities today and beyond the 2010 Games.

Income Tax Volunteers Needed

Now that the holiday season has passed, Deltassist is looking for volunteers to prepare income tax returns for low income Delta residents.

If you have experience preparing income tax returns and time during March and April, we would like to talk to you.

Counselling Services

Deltassist offers group sessions in some of their programs. Registration is currently being accepted for the Nobody's Perfect Parenting Program six week parenting program.

Delta Opposes Violence Everywhere

As a member of the Delta Opposes Violence Everywhere (DOVE) Committee, Deltassist is pleased to provide information and resources on the valuable work of this committee

The committee's coordinated efforts work toward reducing gaps in services and increasing education for the citizens of Delta.

Delta ECD Committee Report

In a report recently released by the Delta ECD Committee, it noted, "Provincially there were almost a quarter of a million (245,940) children under 6 years of age in 2006. In Metro Vancouver the number was 132.030 or 54% of all children under 6 in B.C."

The report also noted, "In Delta there were 5,930 (children under 6) representing 2.4% of the provincial total and 4.5% of all children in the age group in Metro Vancouver."

Delta Connects:

As a member of the "Delta Connects" Steering Committee, Deltassist, along with concerned Delta residents and other community organization have produced the "Aging in Place Seniors Project" Final Report. This report attempts to answer some of the following questions.

  • Is Delta ready to meet the needs of an aging population?
  • What are the strengths of programs and services in Delta?
  • What are the gaps and needs of the senior's population?
