his year marks Deltassist’s 35th year of service to our
community. There are many individuals and volunteers that should be thanked for their enormous effort on behalf of Deltassist. During my first year, as President I have had some big shoes to fill. Maurice Bouchard stepped down as President after serving the board for over 20 years and he now serves as Past President and we are truly grateful for his continued guidance. Maurice’s dedication, professionalism and commitment to our community, and to Deltassist are sincerely appreciated. Thank you, Maurice.

George Gudewill, having served 20 years on the Deltassist Board, retired as Treasurer. He was instrumental on keeping an eye on our financial matters. His efforts as Treasurer have left Deltassist in the enviable position of being able to move forward with new goals and I wish to offer a sincere thank you to George. A special thank you also goes out to our present Board member, Elaine Greggain, Elaine continues to serve our board, as she has from the beginning. She is a dedicated individual who represents Deltassist concerns with passion and a sense of responsibility, delivered from the heart.

We are pleased to welcome two new Board volunteers in Bob Metcalf and Kam Raman. Bob, who is a retired accountant, was already a Deltassist volunteer, who now moves into a role with the Board. Kam is the Envision Credit Union Manager here in Delta, who brings a wealth of financial experience that always is an asset to any organization. We look forward to their contributions and efforts with the Board.

On Tuesday, April 17th, 2007 Deltassist hosted our very first Volunteer Recognition Evening Celebration. The celebration was hosted at the Delta Town & Country Inn and saw 80 volunteers attend. Each volunteer received a recognition certificate honouring his or her unselfish efforts as volunteers to Deltassist. A sincere thank you to all our volunteers.

Throughout the year we’ve benefited from Doug Sobourin as our new Executive Director. Doug brings a wealth of knowledge of community service, a dynamic personality and leadership skills to our agency. He also brings fresh ideas for the challenges ahead, and the Board looks forward to working along with Doug; he has our full support. The following individuals have left us through either r e t i r eme n t or a desire to move on to other endeavors. We wish them well in their journey. They are Gail Mulholland, Kelly MacDonald, Jo-Anne Farmer, Elaine Macleod, Stan Smith, and Giannoula Venetsanopoulos.

This year also brings new financial and service challenges that will be difficult to manage, but with dedicated management, staff and volunteers we hope to successfully meet these challenges. The following report provides a brief summary of the various services we delivered and a tally of the number of individuals whose lives, we believe, have been helped or bettered in one way or another through the provisions of those services. Since achieving accreditation certification from the Council on Accreditation (C.O.A.) we continue to strive to maintain our status as an accredited agency. This accreditation comes with standards, adherence, reporting and on-going monitoring; all to ensure we work to continuously improve the quality of service. The Board, management and staff are all committed to this process and strive for excellence.
Since I joined the Board several years ago, I have been impressed by the variety of services Deltassist provides, the commitment from management and staff, as well as the loyal volunteers delivering a vast array of programs and services. Deltassist is a symbol of Hope, Healing, Community, Giving and Life. A sincere thank you to all that give each and every day.

I wish to thank all the volunteers, my Board colleagues, the management and staff for their efforts and support toward Deltassist’s past goals and future endeavors. The past successes should be looked upon with a sense of pride, and a commitment to community. I look forward to doing my part as President and I know you will do yours.
