Clinical Counsellor
Maternity Leave Temporary Position

Alcohol and Drug/ Healthy Families/Suicide Prevention:

This 1.0 fte position reports directly to the Manager of Counselling Services.



Experienced and dynamic person required to work intensively with children and families referred by MCFD in their home/community that are experiencing a variety and range of issues, position will also require provision of individual, family and group alcohol and drug counselling, as well as working with children, youth, and the community in a suicide assessment/prevention capacity. Position requires flexibility of hours, some evening/weekend work, 35 hours per week.


  • Master's degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work or the equivalent Master's degree
  • Experience with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Strength based approaches
  • Able to accurately assess needs and strengths, develop appropriate service plans, create goals with clients, and assist clients in the change process
  • Able to accurately assess for suicide and other high-risk behaviours
  • Able to work with at-risk families on an intensive outreach basis
  • Able to maintain accurate client statistics, records, and provide reports
  • Able to make referrals to other programs or services, if appropriate
  • Able to actively participate in agency meetings and adhere to all program and agency policies and procedures
  • Able to perform other related duties as required
  • Able to effectively liaise with funders and other professionals in the community

  • Minimum 2 years counselling experience,
  • Knowledge of these issues: substance misuse; suicide, family dynamics, family violence and mental health

  • excellent verbal, written, time management, and word processing skills

  • Must have use of a safe, reliable operating vehicle
  • Must have current certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Ability to speak a second language and certification in Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention are considered assets

Pay Range: Position covered under the collective agreement Clinical Counsellor ($24.96 per hour)
